A STRONG START, A HEALTHY HARVEST

Bring your mushroom growing projects to life with our range of mushroom liquid culture syringes. Packed with living mycelium and ready to inoculate, our cultures are ideal for use with sterilised grain bags or our All-In-One MushBag™ Grow Kits.

01 What is a mushroom liquid culture syringe?

A mushroom liquid culture syringe contains living mushroom mycelium suspended in a nutrient-rich liquid solution. Unlike spores, the mycelium is already growing, making liquid culture a convenient way to inoculate sterile grain and begin producing your own mushroom grain spawn.

02 What is the difference between liquid culture and a spore syringe?

Liquid culture contains actively growing mycelium, while a spore syringe contains mushroom spores suspended in a liquid solution. Because liquid culture already contains established mycelium, it can generally begin colonising suitable sterile grain more quickly than spores, which must first germinate.

03 What do I need to use a mushroom liquid culture syringe?

You can use liquid culture with our sterilised millet or rye grain bags, or inoculate directly into a MushBag™ All-In-One Mushroom Grow Kit. The MushBag is particularly convenient for beginners, as it combines sterilised grain and substrate in a single ready-to-inoculate bag.

04 How do I use liquid culture with a sterile grain bag?

Liquid culture is introduced into sterilised grain, typically through a self-healing injection port using a sterile needle. Clean handling is essential to reduce the risk of contamination. After inoculation, the mycelium gradually spreads through the grain until it becomes fully colonised. Follow the instructions supplied with your culture and grain bag.

05 Can I use liquid culture directly with a MushBag or CVG substrate?

Yes, our MushBag™ All-In-One Mushroom Grow Kit is designed for direct inoculation with liquid culture. It contains both sterilised grain and substrate, allowing mycelium to colonise within the same bag. However, standalone CVG substrate should not be inoculated directly with liquid culture. It is intended to be combined with fully colonised grain spawn.

06 How much liquid culture should I use per grain bag or MushBag?

3-6ml of liquid culture is often sufficient to begin colonisation. Using too much can introduce excess moisture, so follow the recommended inoculation amount for your particular setup.

07 How long does liquid culture take to colonise grain?

Colonisation times vary depending on the mushroom species, grain type and growing conditions. You may begin noticing mycelium developing within several days, while complete grain colonisation can take a few weeks. Some species naturally colonise faster than others.

08 How should I store mushroom liquid culture syringes?

Most mushroom liquid cultures are best kept refrigerated until you're ready to use them. However, certain species, particularly Pink Oyster, may require different storage conditions. Keep syringes sealed, avoid freezing and always follow the storage guidance provided with your product.

09 Is it normal for liquid culture to contain white clumps or strands?

Yes. White, thread-like strands or small clumps are commonly visible in healthy mushroom liquid cultures. These are the living mycelium suspended in the nutrient solution.

10 Are mushroom liquid culture syringes suitable for beginners?

Yes! Liquid culture syringes are suitable for beginners, particularly when paired with our MushBag™ All-In-One Mushroom Grow Kit. The MushBag combines sterilised grain and substrate in one convenient bag, simplifying the growing process. For those who want a more hands-on experience, liquid culture can also be used with separate sterile grain bags to produce their own mushroom grain spawn.
